A few things to know about countertop estimates, measurements and your next steps.

Ask us about your project →
How can I estimate my countertop cost?

Use the countertop price calculator to select a granite or quartz color and enter your area or individual piece measurements. Add backsplash measurements separately. The result is a preliminary estimate; our team confirms the final quote after reviewing your layout, material and project details.

Why might a package and a calculator estimate differ?

Packages combine a stated countertop area with the listed services. The calculator estimates your selected stone and measured area. Color eligibility, additional area, backsplash and project requirements can affect the final price. Compare the package details and send us your selections for confirmation.

Are edges, the sink and sink cutout included?

A standard eased edge is included. Other edge profiles carry an extra charge—ask for pricing. The packages shown above list a stainless steel sink and sink cutout among their inclusions. For a custom calculator quote, a sink and sink cutout may be free; our team will confirm eligibility and the final scope.

How do I measure an L-shaped countertop and backsplash?

For a preliminary estimate, measure each countertop section separately without counting an overlapping corner twice. A single-piece L-shape estimate uses the full outside length and depth as a rectangular blank. For backsplash, select 4-inch or full height, then add every wall section you want covered. Enter each section’s length; for full height, enter its height too. Final measurements are verified before fabrication.

Choosing Countertops for Your DMV Home

Start with how you use your kitchen, then compare the pattern and care each surface needs. Granite System’s Chantilly showroom helps homeowners across Washington, DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia narrow down their options.

    Natural stone

    Granite

Consider it for: kitchens and islands where you want natural variation. Review the actual slab to see how its colors and pattern will work with your cabinets.

Plan for: care suited to the selected stone. Sealing needs vary; ask about your slab rather than assuming a fixed schedule.

    Engineered surface

    Quartz

Consider it for: a coordinated look across counters, an island and backsplash, with a broad choice of patterns and finishes.

Plan for: the manufacturer’s care instructions. Quartz generally needs no sealing; use trivets under hot cookware and heat-producing appliances.

    Natural stone

    Quartzite

Consider it for: a natural stone centerpiece with movement across a large island. Quartzite and engineered quartz are different materials.

Plan for: reviewing the full slab, vein direction and proposed seams. Ask about sealing and care for the specific stone you select.

    Marble

Consider it for: vanities or statement surfaces when you value natural veining and are comfortable with signs of use over time.

Plan for: protection from acidic spills, which can etch the finish. Sealing can help resist stains but does not prevent acid etching.
